What Is A Soup Maker?

A soup maker usually has two or three interchangeable blades that come with the appliance. This means you can use it to blend up soups, sauces, dips and more. The cooker also has a large pot where all the ingredients go, and it cooks quickly so you don’t have to wait long for your meal.

When using a soup maker to create your own homemade vegetable-based soup, you simply need to put in the vegetables and broth and turn it on. It will then cook everything very quickly and blend it into a smooth consistency –– one that’s ready to serve as soon as’s done cooking!

Ninja Blender and Soup Maker [HB150UK] 1000 W, 1.7 Litre Jug, Black
9.8/10Our Score

The Ninja Soup Maker is my number 1 recommendation and it is actually the one that I use almost on a daily basis. Its just so simple, yet has all of the functions and features you could possibly want. I decided to go for this one because of the price, the features but also because I have a Ninja Bullet and have been very satisfied with that.

First of all you can decide on if you want smooth soup or chunky soup and believe me, the smooth soup is so silky smooth. I have made a lot of them and have yet to find any lumps in it. It does also have a manual option so you can heat it and blend it as much as you want. The chunky soup is made in 20 minutes, where as the smooth soup only takes 30 minutes.

You can use the chop option to quickly blitz the ingredients, which only takes around 10 seconds. Once chopped you can then put it onto sautés, so it gets the onion and garlic started off before the rest of the ingredients go in.

There are a number of other functions, for example you can make smoothies, milkshakes, jams, sauces and event desserts. It has the built in blender so you can just use a pulse to help blend things up. With all of these functions, it takes centre stage on my worktop.

Here is the best bit….Cleaning

It is so simple and easy! You simply rinse the soup out once you have made it. Pop a couple of drops of fairy liquid and then add around 700ml of water. Hit the clean button and it then auto cleans for about 6 minutes. Again rinse it out, dry and it is clean! Easy!!

Technical Specs

  • Capacity – 1.7L
  • Material – Glass
  • Type – Blender
  • Weight – 5.6kg

  • Soup in just 20 minutes
  • Sautés the onion and garlic
  • Keeps the soup warm
  • Powerful motor and blades
  • Nice recipe book included
What I Don't Like
  • Can get a little noisy towards the end

2. Lakeland Soup Maker

2nd Choice
Lakeland Soup Maker
9.7/10Our Score

If you are looking for a blender soup maker instead, you cannot go wrong with the Lakeland Touchscreen. It is incredibly flexible, so you can make your homemade soup exactly how you like it.

The touchscreen display is very good and comes with a number of settings, allowing you to cut, blend, cook and even simmer. I really like the fact that you can set the temperature setting and it even comes with 3 different blend speeds, this allows you to get the consistency you like.

This soup maker comes with a great notification display, so you know exactly what is happening. It will tell you when its done but also when its stirring the ingredients, cooking and even tells you when its finished and just keeping your soup warm.

The great thing about this soup maker is that it doesn’t just make soup. You can also use it as a typical blender and make smoothies, dips, and even baby food.

One thing I hate about some devices is having to clean them, luckily with this one it has a pretty effective auto clean. Making it much easier to look after and doesn’t result in me having to scrub it down.

It is a bit more expensive than others, however, it’s not just a soup maker and it is a very well made machine.

  • Capacity – 2L
  • Material – Glass
  • Type – Blender
  • Weight – 7.14kg
What I Like
  • Great touch screen

Cuisinart SSB3U Soup Maker
9.3/10Our Score

Cuisinart makes some incredible kitchen devices and this soup maker is excellent. In fact this machine is probably one of the most versatile, as it doesn’t just make soup. Its great for making jams, sauces and even curries.

I like the different blend speeds that are available, as this will allow you to get the consistency you like. There are 4 speeds in total, along with a pulse setting. I also like the fact that you can set the temperature from high, low and simmer. This makes it even possible to cook Risotto in this soup maker.

Some don’t like that its glass, however this does allow you to see how its cooking and even add some additional ingredients if needed

I really like the lid as it is sealed in 3 different ways, this prevents slippage as well as helping to reduce the amount of steam. It does have an okay capacity, but it can even produce enough soup for 1 person so you won’t experience any wastage.

It’s not a bad price, expensive compared to some but what you get is more than worth the money.

  • Capacity – 1.4L
  • Material – Glass/Stainless Steel
  • Type – Blender
  • Weight – 4.6kg

Morphy Richards Total Control Soup Maker 501020h
9.7/10Our Score

Morphy Richards is known for producing some of the best kitchen equipment and this one is no exception. It’s a little bit more expensive but it is worth it, you get all the control you need along with it being very easy to clean.

I really like the ability of people able to choose how many you are making for. So you can select 2, 3, or 4 people. The benefit of this is that it prevents you from making too little or too much and having waste.

For some soup makers you cannot choose how thick you want the soup to be, however with this one you can pick your desired consistency. The timing is accurate to ensure the ingredients are fully cooked and the touch display is very easy to use and read.

There are also plenty of settings to cover all situations, in fact, there are 9 in total. 3 to help control the consistency and then saute, drink, re-heat, blend, and pre-clean. The re-heat is really useful as you can pre-make the soup and then reheat it around your schedule.

In terms of cleaning, thanks to the pre-clean function it is incredibly simple. You simply add some water with washing up liquid and let it do its work. Some parts can also be removed for you to clean them separately if needed.

You really cannot go wrong with the Morphy Richards Soup Maker, flexible, plenty of features, and makes incredible soup. Yes, it is a little bit more expensive (only a little!), it is worth it and you won’t regret it.

With the Salter Electric Soup Maker, they prove that you don’t need to spend a lot to get a decent piece of equipment. In fact, this is the cheapest on this list and provides plenty of functions to get you tasty homemade soup in 20 minutes.

Simply press the mode button until you know which setting you want and away it goes. It’s fairly easy to clean, perhaps not as easy as the ones above but nothing too complicated. It’s nice and lightweight and even has a spout so that it’s easy to pour.

This soup maker is more for making smooth soups, so if chunky ones are what you prefer then you might want to get one of the above models. The smallest amount of soup you can make is 1 litre, so enough for a small family. If doing for just 1 or 2 people then you may need to make batches and freeze what is left over.

Some more expensive soup makers have additional features and options but for the price, you cannot go wrong with this.

8.4/10Our Score

If you are in a hurry then this soup maker from Morphy Richards is perfect. You can get fresh, homemade soup in as little as 21 minutes. It will make enough for 6 portions, so perfect for those family meals, or if you want to make them as a batch and freeze some ahead of time.

One of the biggest advantages is just how easy it is to use. Chop the ingredients up, put them in the machine and pick how smooth or chunky you want it and let it go. It is thanks to the easy to understand controls that make this soup maker so simple to use. It has clear buttons, lights to show selections, and even has a LED countdown.

The versatility of this machine is also very impressive as it doesn’t just make soups, you can also use it to make smoothies, juices, and even sauces for curries. One main drawback is that you do need to keep an eye on water levels, if you don’t follow the instructions then it could burn at the bottom and this is very hard to clean. Shouldn’t be a problem, however, as long as you do keep an eye on it every so often.

In terms of the price, you cannot go wrong with this really. It’s easy to use, makes incredible soup, and is not the most expensive device on the market. Overall I think it’s a good choice and is ideal for experienced and beginner soup lovers.

Soup Maker Buyers Guide

There are many different soup makers, it can be hard to know which one is best for you and your needs. Below you will find a buyer’s guide, which gives you an idea of things you need to consider before picking one.

Size

The first thing you need to consider is how many portions of soup will you be making at the time. One portion on average is 400ml, if you are just making soup for yourself then a smaller capacity would be fine. However, if you are making soup for several people to a family, you might want to consider a higher capacity.

The biggest would be 1.6l, which is enough to make enough soup for a family of 4.

Programs

People like soup with different textures, which is why most soup makers allow you to make either smooth or chunky soups. If you plan to use your equipment for a number of different uses, you might want to pick one that has other program options.

Some models will also have settings for you to make;

  • Jam
  • Sauces
  • Smoothies
  • Frozen Drinks
  • Ice Creams / Sorbets
  • Milkshakes

Cooking Time

Usually, soup using a maker will be ready in around 30 minutes, this gives the fresh ingredients plenty of time to cook through. Although this does vary depending on how small you cut the initial ingredients.

You can get soup makers that are quick-cooking and offer a fast setting, these should be used with caution as some ingredients may not fully cook in that time.

Ease of Cleaning

There is nothing worse than using a piece of equipment that is really hard to clean, it often puts you off from using it again. Many soup makers will have a program available that is used to self-clean. More than often you just add water and some washing up liquid, it will then mix this together and heat it up as though it was soup and this should help to clean it.

It is often still important to manually wash parts of the soup maker as well, just to get in the hard to reach areas.

Price

Price is naturally something you will want to consider, as you don’t want to spend over the odds for what it is you are getting. At the same time, if you are looking for a soup maker that is versatile and made from high quality materials you need to be prepared to spend £30+

Common Soup Maker Questions

There are a number of common questions I receive when it comes to soup makers.

Why does my soup maker keep stopping?

All devices have a thermostat, this keeps track of the temperature of the machine and if it gets to a certain temperature it will shut off. This is to prevent it from overheating. Normally this will only happen if you are using it multiple times in a row.

Do you need to pre-cook meat before putting it into a soup maker?

Yes, you should always pre-cook any meat you intend to use, this is to ensure that it is fully cooked within. Soup makers can only get to a certain temperature and in order to cook meat fully, this will take many hours.

You should make sure all meat is pre-cooked before adding them to your machine.

Final Thoughts

I really hope this article on the best soup makers has been useful. Making your own homemade soup is amazing, it’s cheaper than traditional soup, and believe me, it tastes so much better. For me, I like things simple, so I want something that is easy to use, can help me make the soups I want, and plenty of them. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the ones above.
